On Tuesday, a London court sentenced a man aged 65 from Balen (in the province of Antwerp) to 14 years in prison. This is reported in the Daily Mail and also by the BBC.
Rudi Sels, a former SAS (British Special Air Service) pilot, discharged three drums containing 31 kilograms of cocaine above a field near Faversham in Kent. The total street value of the parcel amounted to some 2.5 million euros.
Three individuals awaited the drugs on the ground, with detailed maps of the region. This demonstrated the degree of organisation of this gang.
The criminals were tracked by investigators from the National Crime Agency, who were monitoring their activities.
Once arrested, the three Brits acknowledged their involvement in the operation and were sentenced to a total of 38 years in prison between them.
The Daily Mail, says that the Belgian pilot was to receive 500 euros per kilogram delivered, or a total amount of 15,500 euros. Belgian police arrested him for questioning at his home in Balen on October 30th. He was handed over to the British authorities the following day.
On Tuesday, the court at the Old Bailey sentenced him to 14 years in prison, stressing his pivotal role in the drug trafficking ring.
