Green light from European Commission in Fipronil case
Denis Ducarme is pleased that there is now to be a system in place for claiming Fipronil-related compensation.

The federal Minister for Agriculture, Denis Ducarme, said on Tuesday that the European Commission acknowledges the Fipronil crisis as an “exceptional occurrence”. The Commission has given its green light to the compensation scheme initiated by the Belgian government.

Businesses affected by the crisis will have until April 30th, 2018, to submit their case and necessary evidence to the FPS Budget. This department will be operational from January. A so-called “Fipronil Commission” will analyse each case, and the Minister for Agriculture, Denis Ducarme, will determine the relevant compensation award for each claimant.

Denis Ducarme’s department said in a communiqué, “A budget of €21,842,304 has been ratified by the Commission for the Agricultural Sector, of which nearly €5 million of the initial package has already been made available.”
