The Belgian Red Cross is in contact with the family of two Belgian children who are alone in Syria, Het Laatste Nieuws reported on Thursday. According to the daily, the two minors have been alone in Syria since their parents died after joining the Islamic State (Isis) terror group. Their grandfather appealed to the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which advised him to contact the Red Cross’ Tracing Service.
The Red Cross is in contact with their family. However, it does not wish to communicate on the case “for evident security reasons and respect for the family,” Red Cross spokesman Nancy Ferroni indicated.
The Belgian embassies in Jordan and Lebanon are closely following the situation.
