Ghelamco continues to believe in its “Eurostadium” project even though it doesn’t have access to all the data

“Ghelamco continues to believe in its “Eurostadium” project, even though UEFA and the Regional Environmental Permit Committee’s aren’t behind it”. The group issued this statement on Saturday after Flemish authorities refused to grant their support.

“Ghelamco withdrew its initial request because of the communal road that would have to go through Car park C. The project has been modified and downsized in the new request. It also takes previous remarks and advice into account. The procedure for requesting an Environmental permit has been followed to the letter. This procedure, which is specifically designed to efficiently deal with permit requests, ensures the request is handled by the Flemish authorities. That’s another question we have often been asked. Ghelamco regrets that during this procedure, we were given advice without the necessary interpretation and context”, the company explained.

They also referred to the “negative opinions” expressed by some of the political deciders. Ghelamco added they were disappointed they “did not have all the information during the interview phase, which would have allowed us to explain the situation to the Environmental Permit Committee”. The Grimbergen commune didn’t give them a copy of the reclamations in time. “It’s a shame to see that some authorities and organisations are actively undermining the procedure, even though it is supposed to be independent and meticulous”, Ghelamco said.

With regards to the Environmental Permit Committee’s decision, the company “will study the content in detail and then submit our arguments to the Flemish government. They will then make the final decision”.
