The Energy Pact will not be postponed to the governmental negotiations after the 2019 elections, guaranteed the President of Open Vld, when questioned in “De Zondag.” “The energy Pact will come up this year. It is written in the Flemish and Federal Governmental Agreements. I stick with the agreements, and I assume that everyone is holding to them. He who does not just throws the Governmental agreement into the bin,” she declared.

Until now, the NVa has been opposed to the Pact’s project negotiated by the regional and federal ministers of energy and, more particularly, to the confirmation of the agenda for the nuclear exit in 2025. Yet, Flemish nationalists have confirmed this deadline in 2015 by voting the extension of nuclear power plants Doel 1 and 2, the liberal president remarked.

“Choosing old nuclear energy is not an option. And choosing new nuclear energy would cost us billions. Therefore, it is not a path either. We must make the choice of the future. This is why the energy Pact is crucial,” Mrs. Rutten underlined.
