P.M. confirms resumption of work on RER in March

Prime Minister Charles Michel confirmed on Tuesday that work on the Regional Express Network (RER) will resume in March. "Work on the RER will resume in March; it’s very important because it’s a dossier that was bogged down for many years,” Michel said on Channel 1 of Radio Télévision Belge Francophone (RTBF), stressing that the project was important for his home province of Walloon Brabant.

According to the RTBF, the work will start on the 26th of March in Groenendael on Line 161, which is to be upgraded to four lines. The office of the Federal Minister of Mobility, François Bellot, has confirmed the reopening of the worksite between Watermael-Boitsfort and Hoeilaert.

South of Brussels, work on the RER has been lagging.

In March 2017, Minister Bellot released resources to the sum of one billion euros, mainly for the completion of the rapid transport system, promising that the work would resume in Spring 2018. That amount was confirmed in the cooperation agreement concluded in late 2017 between the federal and regional governments.
