Charleroi: Brussels student confined illegally and raped by several individuals

Two individuals were arrested on Tuesday, for the offences of rape and illegal confinement. They are suspected of having locked up a nineteen-year-old student in a studio in Charleroi for three days, with a view to raping her. The young woman was able to find her location using her GSM (Global System for Mobile Communication) and alerted her brother.

From what the victim has said, five individuals are likely to have abducted her last weekend at the exit of a Brussels nightclub, with a view to taking her to a studio in the centre of Charleroi. She is likely to have been confined there over a period of three days, and drugged using various drug substances. It appears that this was so that the perpetrators could sexually abuse her several times.

In the end, the young girl was able to use her smartphone to find her location on Google Maps, and alert her brother. He alerted the police, who intervened at the scene during the night of Monday through to Tuesday.

The local Charleroi police were able to set the victim free, and catch two suspects. They were handed over to the investing judge on Tuesday. At that point warrants were issued for their arrest for illegal confinement and rape. The suspects are currently denying the crimes. They assert that the victim had followed them voluntarily, and that she was having a relationship with one of them.
