On Wednesday, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Didier Reynders, indicated, “We wish to further strengthen the excellent relationship between Morocco and Belgium.” Immediately before, he had met with the Moroccan Prime Minister, Saadedine el Othmani, in Rabat.
He stressed, “Our wish is to further strengthen the links between the two countries, not only from a political point of view but, by way of examples, in scientific and economic spheres.” Concerning the economic strand, Didier Reynders referred to the economic mission that Princess Astrid will lead in the Autumn to Morocco, which should both serve to strengthen and broaden economic links between the two countries.
The minister also made known the joint wish of Belgium and Morocco to collaborate more on the international stage. He welcomed Morocco’s present commitment throughout Africa. The Moroccan Prime Minister is delighted with the excellent relationship between the two countries, and spoke of the opportunity to further bolster it.
Didier Reynders left Brussels on Wednesday morning, beginning a two-day visit in the Moroccan capital. Upon his arrival, he first went to the Mausoleum of Mohammed V. He followed this appointment with a meeting of major players within Moroccan society, which took place at the residence of the Belgian Ambassador.
Of particular note on his schedule for Thursday, the Minister for Foreign Affairs will meet with Ahmed Abbadi, the General Secretary of the Rabita Mohammedia des Oulémas, a public body which fights radicalisation.
