Speed limit on motorways in Flanders lowered

The speed limit on the motorways in Flanders has been lowered, the Flemish Traffic centre (Vlaams Verkeerscentrum) revealed on Saturday afternoon. This is due to the risk of black ice. The measure was requested by the Traffic police. Signs will alert motorists to these changes.

The Antwerp and East Flanders provinces will have a maximum speed limit of 70km/h and it will be 90km/h in Flemish Brabant. The A11 in Western Flanders between Bruges and Knokke will be limited to 70 km/h. There have already been incidences of cars sliding on the ice along this road. The motorway had to be completely shut near Bruges heading toward Knokke at around 1.30pm.

The Traffic centre warned moving through the evening rush-hour traffic will be complicated.
