The telecommunications provider Telenet announced on Wednesday, in a communiqué, that it is to become the sole shareholder of the Flemish commercial television channels Vier, Vijf and Zes. It will also own the production company Woestijnvis in its entirety. Telenet is thus acquiring all of De Vijver Media.
The shareholders Mediahuis SA, as well as Wouter Vandenhaute and Erik Watté, are to sell their respective 30% and 20% shareholdings to Telenet, which will thereby become the sole shareholder in the company. The transaction price has not been disclosed.
Telenet explains, “As the owner of three channels and a production company, Telenet will be able to respond more efficiently and indeed more quickly to innovations, in terms of both the television experience and advertising.”
Furthermore, the media group Mediahuis and SBS Belgium – the parent company of the channels Vier, Vijf and Zes – are creating advertising production through a joint venture which will offer commercial partners online video solutions, as well as a cross-media offer.
The transactions are currently being communicated to the competent competition authorities for their approval.
