Of around 13,000 employees at Belgium’s bank and insurance company, KBC, 4,400 are over 50. These individuals will be at the centre of social negotiations in view of a flexible-working initiative leading to the end of their careers. The story is reported in De Tijd and L’Echo on Friday. This should now be integrated into a new Collective Labour Agreement, relating to job security.
The daily publication mentions that the rampant digitalization in the banking sector is forcing the company to take on individuals with new IT person specifications.
The flexible-working initiative, moving towards the end of individuals’ careers, takes as its starting point the present ‘Minerva Plan’, launched four years ago. The Minerva Plan offers older employees several employment paths, including deliberately opting for a part-time post and/or a post lower down the company hierarchy. The other conceivable option with KBC: finding a new job outside of the company, in which case KBC will pay salary compensation of an appropriate value.
