"Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased driver”, Foreign Minister Didier Reynders said Saturday, as he reacted to the crash of a Belgian coach in Germany. On the night of Friday to Saturday, shortly before midnight, a Belgian bus collided with a truck, leading to the death of the bus driver. The mishap occurred on the A3 motorway near Aschaffenburg in Bavaria.
Didier Reynders confirmed that there were five serious injuries and 17 minor injuries. "Our embassy in Germany and our services in Brussels are following the case," added the minister.
About 50 passengers were in the bus which was on its way to Wurtzbour in Austria when the accident occurend a bit before midnight on the A3 highway.
German media reports the number of seriously injured passengers was limited because passengers wore their seatbelts. After the accident the motorway was closed in both directions.
The coach belongs to the Linden Cars coach company from Rotselaar in Flemish Brabant. It was carrying around 40 holiday goers to the ski slopes of Austria.
