Belgium’s oldest woman dies at the age of 110

Belgium’s oldest woman, Madeleine Dullier, died in Courcelles on the 20th of April, just days before she would have been 111 years old, the Belgian correspondent of the Gerontology Research Group, Anthony Croes-Lacroix, has confirmed. Elisabeth De Proost thus becomes the oldest woman in Belgium, at the age of 110.

Mrs Dullier, born at Mellet on the 30th of April 1907, died in her sleep on the night of the 19th to the 20th of April at  “Au bien-être” residence in Courcelles. She had been the oldest woman in Belgium since the 6th of December 2017.

That title now goes to Élisabeth De Proost from Anderlecht in the Brussels Region, who was born on the 5th of February 1908. “She is doing well, Croes-Lacroix told Belga News Agency. Two women from Ghent, both born in December 1908 are the country’s second and third oldest women.

The Belgian longevity record, held by Joanna Turcksin of Flanders, who died in 2002 at the age of 112 years and 186 days, is still unbroken.
