Belgian party calls upon coalition partners to fight against tobacco
Els Van Hoof is of the strong belief that it is now time to implement sensible measures around tobacco.

The CD&V deputy, Els Van Hoof is calling upon all coalition partners to “finally” fight efficiently against tobacco, which she said is not “alas happening at the present time.” She mentioned having placed two bills before parliament on the issue “which for two years have been going through the Public Health Parliamentary Committee.” She adds that the current policy being conducted by Maggie De Block (Open Vld) is not a sufficiently firm line, although there is scientific evidence against the use of tobacco.

In her proposals, she in particular argues for the complete prohibition of tobacco advertising, the increase of the minimum age for purchasing tobacco products from 16 to 18 years, and for the prohibition upon smoking in a car when in the presence of children.
