Antwerp police intercepts a drug dealer on the run

Antwerp local police intercepted Tuesday a fugitive who had been condemned to a 7-year prison sentence for drug dealing. An off-service policeman recognized the 28-year-old man in a sandwich joint in Merksem and alerted the emergency team. The individual is known for being a skilled kickboxer.

The fugitive had been sentenced in abstentia for having played a key role in a cocaine-trafficking network in Anvers. He was also involved in the import of 124 kilos of cocaine through the port of Rotterdam — a shipment that had been intercepted by the police.

Tuesday, he attempted to escape on foot upon the arrival of the police force. After a quick chase, he was finally intercepted.
