More mobile controls during summer Bob campaign

The authorities promise more mobile alcohol controls during the forthcoming summer Bob campaign that begins Friday and ends on 3 September. “With today’s social media, the police must move around more often than before to make efficient controls. It is no longer necessary to remain several hours in the same place,” states Minister of security and home affairs Jan Jambon.

The eighth edition of this summer campaign will start with a weekend of intensive drunk-driving controls. For 72 hours, all of the country’s police zones will participate in this operation as of Friday.

The 2018 summer will be rich in festive events. Besides festivals and traditional barbecues with friends, the performance of the Red Devils at the World Cup in Russia will be an opportunity for partying and drinking. During the last Euro in 2016, the authorities recorded an increase by 80% of accidents with injuries following the national team’s games.

According to a Vias study, 15% of drivers who participate in a cultural event, or watch a football game are not careful about modifying their alcohol consumption. This percentage rises to 21% for music festivals.
