Extreme drought forecast for Flanders

The Flemish authorities expect extreme drought at the end of June, but that does not mean there will be water shortages or rationing as occurred in 2017, the Flemish Environment agency, Vlaamse Milieumaatschappij, VMM, explained on Friday. Many areas in Flanders are very dry because of a prolonged absence of rainfall. The situation is not expected to change soon since weather forecasts do not indicate that it will rain in the next 10 days.

“If we’re speaking of drought today, it’s because of the low quantity of rain. The water levels in the rivers are normal, as are the levels of surface water and reserves of drinking water,” the VMM explained.
