Inspections yield a tax take of 8.87 billion

Verification of more than 2.2 million tax returns on personal income tax and 115,000 corporate tax filings resulted in tax revenue of 8.87 billion euro in the previous year. The tax authorities achieved a higher return last year than in 2016, according to the annual report for 2017 of the federal government service Finance.

More than 2.2 million personal income tax returns were scrutinised by tax authority inspectors. This resulted in a total of 3.51 billion euro in “revenue increases”, i.e. extra taxes. The examinations yielded an average of 1,569 euro in extra taxes per examined return. In 2016, this totalled 1,341 euro.

For corporate tax there were slightly more than 115,000 checks, accounting for 5.23 billion euro in additional taxes. This monitoring led to additional assessment of 45,415 euro per company. In 2016, it was only 21,194 euro.
