Shot down lioness in Plankendael: internal investigation pointing to human error at origin of incident

The internal investigation led after a lioness escaped from its Planckendae animal park enclosure, has confirmed that the incident originated in a human error, according to information made available by the Mediahuis daily papers and confirmed to Belga by the park. The measures which will be taken against the people involved have not yet been determined.

A lioness managed to escape from its cage on June 21 and started to wander round the park. The lioness which was shot down in the Planckendael park was slowly getting near a group of visitors. It was then decided not to put humans at risks and to kill the animal.

The internal investigation has shown that the lioness’s escape was due to the absence of its trainer, who was in charge of the animal. The infrastructure was in conformity with all security rules. The measures which will be taken against her have yet to be determined. But it would appear that no layoff is in view.
