Around 10,000 people are expected to attend the 18th edition of the "Dinant Jazz” festival, due to take place from Friday to Sunday in the Walloon city. In addition to paying concerts performed by renowned international artists, which will take place at Abbaye Notre-Dame de Leffe, this year organisers wanted to broaden their horizons by offering free concerts in the La Croisette area, located opposite the collegiate church.

The saxophonist, Joshua Redman, is the headline artist for this year’s event. He will appear three times at the abbey: Friday with Billy Hart, Saturday as a trio with Reuben Rogers and Greg Hutchinson, and Sunday as an exclusive duo with the Belgian guitarist, Philip Catherine.

Jean-Claude Laloux, one of the organisers, speaking on Thursday was delighted, “We are truly proud to be able to welcome Mr Redman here in Dinant. With him, our bill will take on another dimension.” The other big names scheduled to appear are Felix Zurstrassen, Marcus Miller and also Monty Alexander.

The free concerts will bring together up-and-coming artists on Saturday and Sunday afternoon in the La Croisette area. Jean-Claude Laloux stated, “It is competition for young talent. We are hoping that a multitude of tourists will come to Dinant to enjoy it.” He concluded, “In all, we hope to attract some 10,000 people to the event, including some 2,000 to 3,000 for the paying concerts.”
