ISIS network planning more attacks includes Belgians

Belgians are among the suspects targeted by an investigation into attacks being prepared by the Islamic State (ISIS) terror group following those perpetrated in Brussels and Paris, Het Laatste Nieuws and La Dernière Heure dailies reported on Thursday. An ongoing investigation opened in November 2016 and conducted in collaboration with many Western intelligence services found that ISIS was planning other attacks in Europe. Documents examined by journalists from Het Laatste Nieuws as well as German, Spanish and Portuguese publications showed that the network of attack planners extended from Portugal to the Balkans.

The investigation file includes the names of three Belgian citizens. Chakir H. (30) from Ixelles and Mohamed Salaheddine L. (39) from Molenbeek transferred sums of money on many occasions. It has not yet been determined where the money came from and what it was used for. Chakir H. was questioned but not detained, while Salaheddine seems to have disappeared.

The file also includes Sammy Djedou (29), who was killed by a drone in Syria.  His role was never clearly defined, but it was clear to the investigators that he, too, helped organize the attacks in Paris and Brussels.

Drones have been used in Syria to eliminate important members of the network that planned the attacks, the dailies reported.
