Ans homophobic statement affair: Henri Huygen quits his councillor position

The Environment and Equal Opportunities Councillor for Ans, Henri Huygen (PS), has been accused of making homophobic statements about First Councillor Thomas Cialone (MR). Mr Huygen has quit his councillor position and will not put himself forward for the communal elections in October, he told the Belga agency himself late Sunday morning.

The future ex-councillor told the agency what Thomas Cialone claimed he said is “false” and accuses him of having an incorrect attitude. “Every MR and PS member involved will stand by their statements”, he added.

Henri Huygen has decided to quit to be able to defend himself, but “also for the sake of my health, my family and my party. I regret having to end my political career this way, especially when I still have plans to help elderly people in Ans”.

Mr Huygen is said to be looking forward to going before the PS Vigilance Committee, “so he can explain what really happened”.
