Only one-third of Belgians use “Home for Sale” notices when selling their houses

Only 33% of Belgians trying to sell their homes still place Home-for-Sale notices at their gates, the Immovlan real estate platform reported on Monday. However, 56% of prospective buyers drive around looking for their dream house in a dream neighbourhood, trusting in good luck to help them find it, according to a survey conducted by Immovlan among 2,000 real-estate agents and home-seekers.

The main reason for the decrease in popularity of “For sale” notices has to do with social networks. One-fifth of all sellers (21%) place their home-sale notices solely on Facebook or other social media.

According to Immovlan, however, a large number of couples do more research than before into the neighbourhoods where their prospective homes are located.

“They want to know the exact amount of time needed to go to the creche on bicycle, whether there is more than one road leading to the highway. Moreover, they want to know more details before buying a home. The fact that home prices have skyrocketed in some Belgian neighbourhoods and towns is also linked to this phenomenon,” says Eric Spitzer, the platform’s Chief Executive Order (CEO)
