Mr Jambon invites mayors of districts with a motorway car park for discussion
Jambon wants to understand the local point of view, but also better explain to the mayors the measures taken by the federal government upon the issue.

The Minister of the Interior Jan Jambon has this Friday, and in the coming days, invited mayors of districts having a motorway parking area on their territory to meet him. The purpose is to discuss the issue of migrants who are trying to enter the UK illegally. The Belga press agency learned the point on Friday from Mr Jambon’s department.

The New Flemish Alliance Deputy Prime Minister wishes to understand the local point of view, but also better explain to the mayors the measures taken by the federal government around the issue. The departments of the Secretary of State for Asylum and Migration, Theo Francken, and the Flemish Minister for Mobility, Ben Weyts - both men of the New Flemish Alliance - will be associated with the consultation.

It is said that the closure of these motorway car parks is not a satisfactory solution. That having been said, the Mayor of Jabbeke had instituted it during the night in the car parking area on the E40 between Bruges and Ostend, where one migrant was injured during the night of Tuesday to Wednesday of this week. The Mayor of Dilbeek (in Flemish Brabant) has raised the alarm for the Groot-Bijgaarden car park.
