The cdH has put benevolence at the heart of its campaign for the 14th of October elections. It will be the theme running through the propositions the humanist democrats will put forward in the communes they are running in.
“The goal at the heart of this human project is benevolence, first and foremost. We need benevolence towards others to make a comeback: benevolence in social connections, in the streets, in all communes,” the centrist President Benoit Lutgen explained at his party’s Family fete on Sunday.
The centrist President has not hidden his concern about the increase in populism’s popularity. “The atmosphere is often charged. Populists are stepping up their speeches. Fascists are showing themselves and openly demonstrating in Europe without any concerns. Fake news, insults, cock-fighting, social network used as hate tools. Enough,” he said.
The centrists hold providing elderly people access to local services, help for disabled people, education, spaces in creches, a network connection for all, quality food, sanitation and 4,000 extra police officers throughout the country as their priorities for the communes.
Proximity is essential for the cdH. “What paves the way for extremism is the de-centralisation of decision-making, the feeling of being left to your own devices, being left to one side by public authorities,” says Mr Lutgen.
