Five-year suspended prison sentence for paedophile and rapist from Sambreville

On Thursday, the Namur Criminal Court sentenced a sixty-year-old from Sambreville to a five-year suspended prison sentence. His offences: rape, sexual acts and indecent assault committed on young boys, between 2015 and 2017.

In total, six youngsters aged under 16 when the incidents occurred, were involved. One of the victims was even under 14.

B.G. immediately acknowledged his actions. His Defence added that his behaviour was the consequence of his “state of chronic psychosis of a schizophrenic nature,” that his risk of re-offending was low, and that a given form of treatment would be more suitable than a prison sentence.

The judge retained this hypothesis in the case. He decided to hand down a five-year probationary sentence to last for as many years as the prison sentence for the offence would have done, with in particular psychiatric measures.

Provisional nominal compensation of one euro was also agreed with all civil parties, whilst awaiting the appointment of a medical expert.
