Around twenty people arrested for questioning for cable thefts in Liège

The Liège Public Prosecutor’s Office indicated, on Tuesday morning, that around twenty people were arrested for questioning on Monday in the Liège region. Their crime: railway line cable thefts. It confirms information reported by RTBF.

A large-scale police operation was conducted on Monday in the Liège region to find those responsible for the cable thefts, which have taken place in recent weeks on Belgian railway lines.

Moreover police have succeeded in laying their hands on 19 tonnes of copper wire and arresting around twenty people. They are suspected of being part of an organised gang responsible for the cable thefts.

Given the evidence, the judge responsible for the case has sent the file for investigation. For now, the investigation is still ongoing, and the Liège Public Prosecutor’s Office does not wish to make any public comment on the case.
