Whale beached at De Haan

Whale beached at De Haan

A dead whale landed on the De Haan Beach on Thursday at around 2.30 a.m. The local police have set up a security perimeter around the animal to keep onlookers at a distance.

The whale had been seen off the coast around Blankenberge. It was already dead and the corpse was drifting towards the shore. Simulations by the Royal Institute of Natural Sciences of Belgium, IRSNB, showed that it was going to be beached between Middelkerke and Zeebrugge. The enormous cetacean finally landed on the beach at De Haan.

The police set up a security perimeter around it using Nadar barriers and police cordons.

A post mortem was scheduled to be done on the animal.
