Car drives into picket line in Ghent: driver questioned
A car driver turned aggressive and drove into two protesters in Ghent.

A vehicle drove straight into a picket line in Ghent, near the Ghelamco Arena, according to a trade union source and confirmed by the police. Two trade union members were injured and required medical attention. The driver in question was arrested.

The incident took place around 9.00 a.m. on Proeftuinstraat when the driver turned aggressive and drove into two strikers.  The picket line was causing traffic jams in the area.

Preliminary observations indicate that the protesters were briefly dragged along on the ground, but were not seriously injured.

Several Belgian services are operating at reduced capacity today due to a national strike called by private sector unions. This includes the cancellation of the majority of flights out of Brussels Airport and disruptions to train services within the country, as previously reported.
