Belgium braces for 90 km/h winds

Strong winds have returned to Belgium with gusts predicted to reach 70 to 80 km/h, or even 90 km/h in case of heavy showers, warns the MRI which has placed Belgium in a yellow weather alert from 11 until 19 hours. A yellow alert means that you should plan ahead, and consider possible travel delays or the disruption of your day-to-day activities.

Additionally, Belgium has been declared an orange weather zone by weather website Meteo, meaning a "severe weather warning is in place".

Until 8 pm tonight, a very active rain zone will cross our country from west to east with heavy rains and sometimes heavy showers.

The maximum temperatures will vary between 5 degrees in the highlands of the Ardennes and 11 degrees in Flanders.

The Bois de la Cambre is once again open to traffic, Brussels-Capital Ixelles police spokeswoman Ilse van de keere said Thursday morning. It had been closed due to the strong winds that swept the country in recent days.
