The decision that railway staff will wear a unique identification number instead of a name tag was positively received by Belgian National railway company SNCB on Friday. Since November 2018, train attendants and platform staff were legally required to visibly wear a name tag so they could be identified when they issued administrative fines to the public.
This move was considered an unacceptable violation of privacy by unions, who had reported concerns after retaliation against staff on social networks. The railway company also noted that it considered it important to respect employee privacy.
An amendment to the law in response to these concerns was approved on Thursday in plenary session in the Chamber, according to reports. The staff will therefore no longer be identifiable by name but instead by a number.
