Man dies after accidental fall in Antwerp port

A man working in the port of Antwerp has died after accidentally falling from a straddle-carrier.

The 58-year-old man was operating a straddle-carrier in the port when he fell from a height of 12 metres.

He died on the spot, and all operational activities were halted after the accident.

"I can, unfortunately, confirm that there was an accident at the Euroterminal today," terminal operator Caroline Creve told the Gazet van Antwerpen.

Creve added that the exact circumstances surrounding the accident were not yet known, and that priority was being given to contacting the family of the deceased.
