Vincent Kompany returns to Anderlecht as player-manager

On Sunday morning, the 33-year-old Belgian defender Vincent Kompany announced his departure from Manchester City. Later that day he made the announcement that he would become playing manager in Anderlecht for the next three years.

Kompany was trained in Anderlecht, where he began at the age of 17. He left Anderlecht for Hamburg in 2006, before moving to Manchester City in 2008.

Roberto Martinez - the coach of the Red Devils - commented that he had no doubt that the defender will also have a great career in management.

"We are all delighted to learn the new position of Vincent. He has always demonstrated the qualities necessary to enter management and I am sure that the next chapter will be a success for him. As a Belgian football federation, we always support our players in their new challenges and as their careers evolve," he said.
