One person dead after three truck pile up in Wallonia

Three trucks collided shortly after 9:00 AM on Wednesday on the E42 motorway in Gouy-lez-Piéton in the direction of Liège. The first truck had braked because of the road works ahead, but the second one could not stop in time and crashed into it. A third truck driver also did not manage to slow down his semi-trailer to avoid the crash.

The truck in the middle of the pileup rammed into the central bank and left the driver injured. The driver of the third truck died as the cabin was completely destroyed.

Civil Protection services were called on site because of the debris and fuel oil spread on the road reported La Libre.

Traffic is significantly slowed down with at least 30 minutes of extra travel times and 3 kilometres of queues. The Traffic Centre advises drivers to take the R3 at Heppignies in the direction of Guoy and enter the E42 to Mons at the Guoy-lez-Pieton interchange to avoid the accident.
