The courts have still not resolved 1,325 cases from the last century pitting the Belgian tax authorities against individual taxpayers, the tax office stated to De Tijd and L'Echo. To these may be added a further 122 administrative proceedings dating from before 2000. Various tax lawyers consulted by De Tijd attribute this tardiness to different causes: a mixture of delays at tax office level, procedural wrangles among lawyers and long delays, especially at the Brussels Appeal Court.
