Polling stations across Belgium opened at 8:00 AM on Sunday.

Around 8 million Belgians are registered to vote to elect 484 MPs to sit on six Parliaments (the Chamber, the Flemish, Walloon, Brussels and German-language Parliaments and the European Parliament).

These elections also indirectly decide who will sit on four other Parliaments and assemblies (the Senate, the Brussels-Wallonia federation Parliament and in Brussels the French Community Commission assemblies and the Vlaamse Gemeenschapscommissie).

Politicians will then have to form majorities inside those Parliaments, who will then form the governments or give them their vote of confidence. The 6th state reform grouped the federal elections and regional and European elections together, to move away from repeated elections.

This means all the Parliaments will be filled at the same time. The first mega-election like this took place in 2014.Only the communal and provincial elections were kept separate. They took place back in October 2018.
