A Belgian fraudster, wanted by Interpol for nearly ten years, was arrested in Monaco and is currently being held in an Italian prison while he awaits extradition to the United States.

The 48-year-old man, wanted for having robbed unspecified aviation companies out of millions of euros, had managed to remain in hiding since 2010, but was finally arrested in late May in Monaco, according to reports.

Italian police tracked him down to a hotel where he registered under a false name in order to attend the Formula One Monaco Grand Prix car race.

Between 2004 and 2010, the Belgian national diverted millions of euros from aircraft part sales into his personal accounts, as well as those of his friends and family.

He is currently being held in an Italian prison while he awaits possible extradition to the United States, where he risks a 20-year prison sentence.
