Only two out of four railways between Brussels and Antwerp are working due to an extensive power cut, leading to several train cancellations and grinding rush-hour traffic to a halt on Thursday.
About half of the trains between both cities have been cancelled due to the electricity cut, which happened between the cities of Mechelen and Vilvoorde.
The cause of the power outage is reportedly a broken high-tension cable, which was damaged during works on Thursday morning.
It is not yet known when the situation will be resolved, railway infrastructure company Infrabel warned travellers the disturbances could last well into the afternoon, according to reports.
Passengers travelling between both cities are warned about possible disturbances, as the trains that are running will be likely delayed.
