The 22 March terrorists will be tried at the former site of NATO headquarters in Brussels, Justice Minister Koen Geens said on Friday at the end of a cabinet meeting.
The investigation into the attacks, which lasted three years and three months, was completed in June 2019. The investigating judges submitted their files to the Office of the Federal Prosecutor and preparations for the trial are under way.
The trial could not be held in the Brussels Law Courts for practical and operational reasons Many alternative venues were studied, taking into account availability, the flexibility of the rooms to be made ready, the prospects for rendering the site safe, accessibility etc.
The trial is scheduled to start in the year 2020. The exact date will be announced in 2020.
