A grenade was thrown at a shisha bar in a town near Antwerp in the early hours of Monday, in a repeated-incident which left significant material damage and which police are still investigating, according to reports.

The grenade was thrown a little before 05:00 AM at a bar in the town of Willebroek, located 10 kilometres to the north-east of Mechelen in the province of Antwerp.

The grenade bounced off the bar's window and exploded in the street, according to Het Nieuwsblad.

The bar's façade, the sidewalk and the nearby businesses in Willebroek's August Van Landeghemstraat suffered significant material damage, but no one was injured.

"The window of the shisha bar and [of] the adjacent building were damaged, and also the windows of the shop across the street," a spokeswoman for the public prosecutor's office told the outlet.

The DOVO explosives unit were called to the scene and federal authorities are investigating what is reportedly the second time a grenade has been thrown at the same shisha bar, in an incident for which they have not yet established a link, according to the news site.
