Electric car models to triple in Europe by 2021: analysis

By 2021, car manufacturers are expected to market 214 electric models in Europe. This increase would represent more than a tripling of the offer compared to the situation at the end of 2018 (60 models), according to an analysis published on Thursday by the European Transport & Environment (T&E) platform based on forecasts from the IHS Markit design office.

In detail, 92 fully electric models would be marketed in 2021 and 118 hybrid models.

“If the forecasts are true, by 2025, 22% of the vehicles assembled will be electric, which is more than enough to reach the European CO2 standard for cars,” estimates T&E, which includes about sixty organizations including Inter-Environnement Wallonie and the Brussels urban movement, in a statement.
