A heatwave action plan will be put in place for the second weekend of the Tomorrowland music festival, as temperatures in Belgium are expected to reach the high thirties from Wednesday.

The organisers of the festival are studying the implementation of measures in order to better prepare staff and festival-goers for the scorching heat during the four-day festivities, according to RTBF.

Measures are also expected to be put in place for the festival's neighbourhood party, during which residents of the nearby towns, including children and the elderly, are invited to spend a day on the festival grounds.

A heatwave action plan was also launched during last year's edition of the festival, which saw performers and attendees weather temperatures of up to 40 degrees Celcius.

Additional shaded and cooling areas, and improved access to drinking water were some of the measures put in place by the festival in 2018.

The first weekend of the festival made international headlines after a man passed out on festival grounds and later died in the hospital. An additional 50 people were hospitalised and thousands more required first-aid assistance during the festival's opening weekend.
