The terms of Theresa May's divorce agreement with the European Union are "unacceptable", the new British Prime Minister Boris Johnson told the House of Commons on Thursday.

"The Withdrawal Agreement negotiated by my predecessor has been three times rejected by this house. Its terms are unacceptable to this parliament and to this country," said Johnson.

Faced with the Europeans' refusal to renegotiate the agreement with Mrs May, the preparation of an exit without an agreement is the "priority", insisted the Conservative.

"Today is the first day of a new approach, which will end with our exit from the EU on 31 October," he added.
