Belgium's food security authority ordered the temporary closure of the company that manufactured a batch of organic eggs recalled from stores on Wednesday.

The eggs were recalled from several supermarket chains in the country after checks carried out by manufacturing company E.K.E revealed there was a slight excess of dioxin levels in the eggs.

The Limburg-based manufacturing company alerted the food safety agency (AFSCA) and is currently conducting checks to find the source of the problem.

AFSCA has ordered the company to shut down production as the internal checks are carried out, according to Le Soir.

The eggs recalled carry the reference 0BE7050 and are distributed in chains like Carrefour, Delhaize Intermarché and Cora.

They are also sold by other wholesale grocers such as Delfood, Bidfood and The Eggman.
