Over 340 motorists in Flanders received an undue fine from a speed camera on Tuesday, due to a fault in the machine.
600 drivers going under the speed limit of 70 km/h in Roeselare in West Flanders were flashed by the machine, which had been incorrectly set to 50 km/h, HLN reports.
“Those who have already paid will get their money back, we advise others to contest the fine,” explained Commissioner Carl Vyncke. Around 340 people will be fined, but they don’t have to pay them, he added.
“A little more than 600 violations were registered during that period,” said Vyncke. “340 findings were already sent digitally to the processing centre in Ghent, where the fines are sent. We were still able to stop 258 other findings. So there is no problem for those drivers. “
Anyone who has been incorrectly fined should fill out their case on verkeersboetes.be. Those who have already paid should call the police, they will get their money back.
“We’re looking to cancel those fines because it’s our fault that a wrong speed registration has happened,” said Vyncke.
