The sexist email medical students at the ULB received about their results publication “is contrary to our values and practices”, the Brussels-based University’s spokesman Nicolas Dassonville said on Saturday evening.
Last week, medical students at the ULB received an email about the dress code for their results publication on the 28th of June, among other things. It says that “from an aesthetic point of view, it is preferable that women wear a dress or skirt and a décolleté, and men wear a suit”.
“This email came from the Medical faculty’s secretariat and contains 20 recommendations linked to this statement”, the spokesman said. He added the phrase was “totally out of place and contrary to the values and practices of the ULB”. He said the ULB took gender equality “very seriously”.
“This is an isolated and unfortunate incident” that the Dean has officially apologised for, he said.
There will be a meeting between the people in charge of the results publication on Monday.
