The Université catholique de Louvain (UCL) and the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (KUL) will conduct a joint mission to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Boston, USA on the 9th and 10th of March 2018. This is the first joint overseas mission by the two universities since the University of Leuven split in 1968. It is scheduled to result in the signing by the KUL and MIT of an agreement on an exchange programme in which the UCL already participates, as well as a meeting with honorary doctors of the two universities who come from Harvard and MIT, the UCL stated on Tuesday in a press release.
The agreement should allow researchers from the various institutions to conduct further research in their respective fields in MIT’s laboratories and vice versa, the UCL explained.
The joint mission is also a new step in the development of closer ties between the UCL and KUL. The two universities have already decided to reconstruct digitally the former academic library that had been divided into two following the 1968 split. The two universities are also planning to grant doctor honoris causa titles in future.
