Over 4,000 register for entry exam for medicine, dentistry in Brussels-Wallonia

The Academy for Research and Higher Education (ARES) has registered 4,058 applications for the first session of the entry examination for medical and dental studies in the Brussels-Wallonia Federation. Candidates had until the 16th of June at 11.59 p.m. to register for the first session, which will take place on the 6th of July.

Two sessions of the examination will be organised this year. The second one will be on the 5th of September and registration opens on the 18th of July. Both will be held at the site of Brussels Expo.

Not all registered candidates will be allowed to sit the exam. Each application must be analysed, depending on the situation of the student concerned. Moreover, registrations will only be validated after payment by the 25th of June of the sum of 30 euros, which will be given back to all students who do, in fact, sit the exam.

Anyone wishing to withdraw from the test can do so by the 3rd of July, according to ARES, which expects that 3,500 to 4,000 persons will actually sit the exam. The final number of participants should be known on the 26th of June.

Of the 3,463 candidates who sat the examination last year. Only 20.04% had passed. The multiple-choice exam tests eight subjects divided into two categories: “knowledge and understanding of scientific matters” and “communication and critical analysis of information”.

To pass, and in this way gain access to the faculties of medicine and dentistry, candidates need an average of at least 10/20 for each part and a minimum of 8/20 in each subject. Each candidate may only sit the examination in two academic years over a period of five years.
