Missing student found dead on ULB campus

The body of a student who disappeared on Wednesday has been found on the campus of the Free University in Brussels (ULB). Solène Zahedi, aged 18, had been at a party on the campus in Ixelles, and was last seen at around 0130 on Wednesday morning. Her mother reported her missing, and her body was found by police on the Solbosch capus at 0100 on Thursday morning.

A member of the prosecutor's office and a forensic examiner were dispatched to the scene, as usual in cases of unexpected deaths. However their initial conclusion was that no third party was involved. The death appeared to have been the result of an accident, perhaps a fall. An autopsy was due to be carried out on Friday morning to determine the exact cause of death.

Solène was a first-year student, studying sociology and anthropology.

“This dramatic accident has plunged the university community into an enormous sadness,” the university posted on its Facebook page. “The university offers its sincere condolences to the family and loved ones.” A support programme for students affected by the accident has been set up by the university's counselling service.

Child Focus, the charity for missing children, also posted its condolences on Twitter, and thanked those who had distributed its initial tweet on the victim's disappearance.
