Any job losses that come due to the Ahold and Delhaize groups announcing their merger on Tuesday will mainly affect Belgians, says the Flemish Union CNV.
While there is no short term threat to jobs, there will be too many people working in logistics, says Michiel Wallaard, the CVN director. The Dutch have the advantage in logistics, due to lower salaries and more flexible rules on night shifts. Any job losses will therefore mainly affect Belgians, he says.
